Piazza San Marco

Piazza San Marco ...
... a place with way to many tourists and especially pigeons. Most likely you can get here the most expensive cup of coffee in Italy!    ;-)    But it's still worth a visit!

Piazetta San Marco ...
... with the two emblems of Venice's patron saints - the winged lion of St Mark and the figure of the demoted St Theodore, whom St Mark replaced.

Basilica di San Marco ...
... a wooden church was built there already in the 9th century, but the Basilica which we can see there right now was built in the 11th to 17th century - has beautiful mosaics inside and many other treasures.

Campanile ...
... the basilica's 99m tall bell tower (first built in the 10th century but after it had collapsed in 1902 it took 10 years to rebuilt it).
